Incorporated in 1999, Shringar Cinemas Limited is an integrated film exhibition and distribution company operating a chain of multiplexes under the brand name 'Fame', offering a world-class movie viewing experience to consumers across India.
The company operates in two key business segments — film exhibition and film distribution. On the exhibition side, it operates multiplexes under the 'Fame' brand, with existing properties at Versova (Mumbai), Malad (Mumbai), and Nasik, and properties under implementation in Kandivali, Pimpri (Pune), Surat, Thane, Hyderabad, Aurangabad, and Kolkata. Its film distribution business is carried out through its wholly owned subsidiary, Shringar Films Private Limited (SFPL), one of the leading film distributors in Western India, with a legacy dating back to 1975.
The company follows a capital-efficient lease-based operating model, preferring long-term leases over property ownership. Revenue is generated through ticket sales, food and beverage (F&B) income, advertising, and ancillary income from retail space within its multiplexes. Its distribution business operates through minimum guarantee, commission, and outright sale models with producers, and various revenue-sharing arrangements with exhibitors.
Shringar Cinemas has a pan-India expansion strategy, with signed MOUs and LOIs for over 10 additional properties slated to open in FY 2007 and 2008, which are expected to add 49–54 screens. As of February 2005, the company had 55 full-time employees across its entities.
The company has distributed several landmark Hindi films including Lagaan, Raja Hindustani, Rangeela, Chalte Chalte, and Munnabhai MBBS, and has also pioneered national releases of niche films such as Hyderabad Blues, Bandit Queen, and Chachi 420. Its library includes perpetual rights and negatives of several classic films.
Key strengths of the company include strong brand recognition under the 'Fame' name, proven ability to identify high-potential locations, capital-efficient project execution, deep content selection expertise built over decades of distribution experience, a customer loyalty programme (Purple Privilege Club with over 7,000 members as of February 2005), and an integrated technology backbone through Vista (ERP for cinema operations) and BOSS (accounting system).
