How to reopen the closed Zerodha account?

Once a Zerodha account is closed, the account owner cannot reopen it with the same user ID. Instead, they must open a new account.

When there's no trading activity for 12 consecutive months, exchanges consider the account inactive. To ensure security, Zerodha marks such accounts for rekyc, which can be reactivated by verifying the KYC details.

To reactivate the account, follow these steps:

  1. Click on signup.zerodha.com/rekyc.
  2. Click on “Continue with Kite” Button
  3. Updating KYC:
    • If the details are correctly entered, click on Proceed with same details or else click on “Update details as per AADHAAR” and then on Link your Digilocker with Zerodha. T
    • In case of non-compliance, the KYC status and blocked account, click on Continue and update the details as per Aadhaar.
  4. Upload proof of income to trade in F&O (optional).
  5. Update the FATCA declaration and click on Continue.
  6. Complete What is In-Person Verification

The account reactivation may take 24-48 hours after completing the above steps. However, once Zerodha approves the request, it may take additional time for them to enable the segments.

The address can be changed online only if a mobile number is linked to the Aadhaar. If not, follow the offline process.
